Incident Reports

These are near real time reports of pirate and other criminal incidents which have taken place within the area of operations. They will include a brief description of what has happened, where and when it took place and any imagery which is available of the vessels involved. The important aspect will be an assessment of any changes the incident may have made to the threat environment and the implications for commercial maritime operations. Where appropriate the report will contain some advice on courses of action which may be adopted to mitigate the changed risk.

Report Example:

INCIDENT: Sighting of Pirate Action Group (PAG)

DTG: 0532 UTC 04 Jan 2011

Position: 12 10N 043 43E

Location: Gulf of Aden

Source Confidence Level: High

Commentary: A Pirate Action Group (PAG) comprising of a Mother Ship and two skiffs have been sighted in the Gulf of Aden 80 NM south west of Aden, Yemen. The Mother Ships identity is unknown, but the previously hijacked Taiwanese Fishing Vessel Shiuh Fu No. 1 has been recently reported in this area and is a strong contender.

Recommendation: All vessels are recommended while navigating within 100nm of the reported position to operate at a heightened state of readiness, maintaining strict 24 hour anti-piracy visual and radar watches.

Actively implement recommended anti-piracy measures and regularly report position/course/speed to UKMTO, MSC HoA.
